Hassan O. Rashid is a seasoned banker with over 31 years of experience spanning corporate banking, credit risk management, SME, and retail banking. Recognized for his strategic clarity and execution excellence, he has consistently driven transformation and sustainable growth across leading financial institutions.
Prior to joining EBL as Managing Director on 19 April 2026, Mr. Hassan has led a significant turnaround of Prime Bank, positioning it among the fastest-growing private sector banks in Bangladesh. Under his leadership, Prime Bank achieved a 60 percent expansion in its balance sheet and a 285 percent increase in profit after tax, without increasing headcount—reflecting a strong focus on efficiency and value creation. He also spearheaded the launch of “Prime Now,” a digital banking platform developed in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), reinforcing the bank’s digital transformation agenda.
In his earlier stint as Additional Managing Director of Eastern Bank (2016–2021), Mr. Hassan played a central role in strengthening the Bank’s leadership position. He oversaw key functions including Corporate and Commercial Banking, Treasury, Information Technology, and Special Asset Management, while also supervising subsidiary companies. During his tenure, Eastern Bank’s international presence expanded, and several innovative financial instruments - such as Commercial Paper, Zero Coupon Bonds, and Preference Shares - were introduced in Bangladesh.
Mr. Hassan began his career with international banks, holding senior roles at Standard Chartered Bank, HSBC, and Credit Agricole Indosuez. At Standard Chartered Bangladesh, he successfully built the SME business into one of the bank’s fastest-growing segments and led landmark financing initiatives in energy and infrastructure.
He holds a Master of International Management from Garvin School of Management, Thunderbird, USA, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business Administration from Capital University, Ohio, USA. He has also completed extensive international training in credit, project finance, trade finance, and mergers and acquisitions.
A process-driven and people-focused leader, Mr. Hassan currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the Association of Bankers, Bangladesh (ABB), and remains actively engaged in professional and social initiatives.
