EBL partners with Chokher Sheba Hospital to support quality eye care for underprivileged communities

Eastern Bank PLC. (EBL) has entered into a strategic partnership with Chokher Sheba Hospital Ltd. to support quality eye care for underprivileged communities. The initiative aims to protect and restore vision by strengthening access to advanced ophthalmic services, with a particular focus on diabetic eye diseases, retinal treatment, and precision eye surgery.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed and a cheque for Taka 7.5 million was handed over at a ceremony held at EBL’s Head Office in Dhaka. Hassan O. Rashid, Managing Director of EBL, presented the cheque to Brig. Gen. Prof. Nazrul Islam (retd), Director of Chokher Sheba Hospital Ltd.

Through this partnership, Chokher Sheba Hospital will continue providing consultations, treatment and eye surgeries to underprivileged and vulnerable patients at subsidized costs, helping improve access to quality eye care across Bangladesh.

Speaking on the occasion, Brig. Gen. Prof. Nazrul Islam said, “Restoring sight is more than a medical intervention—it restores dignity, independence and hope. We are grateful for Eastern Bank PLC.’s support, which will strengthen our ophthalmology services and enable us to make quality eye care more accessible and affordable for those who need it most.”

Hassan O. Rashid said, “Chokher Sheba Hospital has been making a meaningful difference by providing quality eye care to people across the country. EBL is proud to partner with the hospital through this CSR initiative, which will help expand its capacity to serve marginalized communities and improve access to quality eye care services.”

The ceremony was attended by senior representatives from both the organizations. Chokher Sheba Hospital was represented by Dr. Md. Mominul Islam, Chairman; Dr. Muntassir, Consultant; and Ayatul Ahammed, IT & Marketing Officer. Representing EBL were Ahmed Shaheen, Additional Managing Director; Ziaul Karim, Head of Brand, Marketing and Communications; Maj Md. Abdus Salam, psc, (Retd), Head of Administration; Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, FCS, Company Secretary; Md. Maskur Reza, FCA, Head of Business Information Systems; Major Arif Chowdhury (retd.), Head of Cash Management among others.
